Flextronics to axe 950 workers at Hungary plant, reports MTI
Feb 08, 2006
The Hungarian unit of electronics manufacturer Flextronics International Ltd. will lay off up to 950 workers at its plant in Nyiregyhaza, eastern Hungary, local news agency MTI said on Tuesday. MTI said Flextronics had already announced the planned lay-offs to the local labour centre, saying that if it receives new orders then fewer workers would have to leave. Flextronics employs 2,000 at its plant in Nyiregyhaza, an area of Hungary where unemployment is higher than the national average of 7.3 percent. Flextronics said the layoffs were due to the seasonal nature of production at its plant, where it makes household and office electronics products, and where output fluctuates depending the size of orders the company receives.
