Compal Communications aims to ship 55 million handsets in 2006

Compal Communication, the largest OEM/ODM handset maker in Taiwan, projects to ship 55 million handsets in 2006, up from the 37.8 million units the company shipped in 2005, according to company sources. In a January 5 press release, the company said that volume shipments of its handsets hit a record high of five million handsets in December 2005, pushing its revenues for the month to a historical high of NT$5.29 billion (US$165 million). In related news, investment bank Goldman Sachs predicted that Compal's handset shipments are expected to reach 63 million units in 2006, which will allow the company to record a net profit of NT$6.23 billion (US$194 million), or a net EPS (earnings per share) of NT$13.39 (US$0.42), in 2006. source: DigiTimes
