Quanta accounts for 30% PDA mobile phone production volume

Wireless handheld devices are getting popular in the world. According to IDC report, the PDA mobile phone, smart phone and related communication products will be grew over 40 percent this year. More and more system OEMers such as Quanta, Inventec, and Hong Hai started to manufacture mobile phones in order to gain higher profits comparing to the low margin of NB OEM business. Since last year, Quanta had been integrating resources and setting new product strategy. Last November, Quanta re-positioned wireless communication department in order to take back the losing market. Besides the existing mobile phone products, Quanta already obtained the PDA mobile phone OEM orders from HPQ and O2 for Asian market and started to deliver the shipment from last December. Internally, Quanta estimated that the annual mobile phone shipment will be reached 5 million units in the year of 2006 grew 25 percent from last year. The percentage of PDA mobile phone will be 30-40 percent of entire shipment at 1.5 to 2 million units. On the other hand, the gross will be also increased by adding PDA mobile phone production. The gross rate of mobile phone product will exceed 15 percent grew 3 percent from last year's 12 percent.
