Quanta will benefit from Sharp's order for TV panels

Dec 30, 2005

Sharp's sixth generation factory is aggressively expanding its production capability from the current 51,000 units to 56,000 units in March next year.

This action indicates the production capability of Sharp TV panel is very tight and Sharp will release the 32-inch or smaller size TV panel order to Taiwan market, and Quanta Display Inc will benefit from it.

According to news of Bloomberg, to be able to satisfy the large size LCD TV demand from FIFA World Cup next year and the winter Olympic Games, Sharp plans to expand production capability of its sixth generation factory from 51,000 to 56,000 units. Due to the use of HD signal for broadcasting of Super Bowl next February and the winter Olympic Games, Sharp thinks the total sales of HDTV will be increased in the next 2 months. Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA) also mentioned that the yearly rate of total production output of Japan local LCD TV has increased 54.2% and the monthly rate increased by 17.3% to 461,000 units.

Sharps had mentioned earlier that in order to satisfy its demand of LCD TV production, they are in discussion with few Taiwan panel companies about purchasing LCD panel in size 32-inch or below. As for 37-inch or larger sized panel, Sharps will still produce on its own, the procurement from Taiwan will be started next spring.
