Advanced manufacturing suite boosts profitability in mid-volume smt manufacturing
Assembleon launches a comprehensive set of hardware and software tools which will make manufacturers using its mid-volume machines highly competitive at a global level.
The launch of AMS 2.0 Advanced Manufacturing Suite recognizes that fast, error-free NPI, minimization of changeovers and labor costs, and logistical efficiency demand that the component placement function is integrated into the overall production environment. By focusing on maximizing the performance of Assembleon's machines and providing connectivity to other machines and software used in the factory, AMS 2.0delivers the shortest design-to-production time, fastest ramp-up, lowest cost per placement, and highest output.
Implementation of full AMS 2.0 functionality moves many production preparation functions off-line, assures error-free set-ups for assured product quality, and eliminates bottlenecks and component starvation.
Rapid NPI is achieved by decoupling preparation tasks from board production through off-line implementation of operations such as creation of vision files and data preparation, electrical verification of R, C and L values, and checking of the barcodes on reels. AMS 2.0 also provides a central database for programs and vision files, ensuring that the line is supplied with the correct, most up-to-date versions.
AMS 2.0 provides production scheduling and line optimization functionality for highest operational efficiency, eliminating bottlenecks that impact production volume and time. It generates placement programs and feeder set-ups for every machine in the production line. A feeder viewer enables analysis and allows dynamic re-assignment of feeders.
First time right manufacturing is assured by off-line and on-line verification of set-ups, with an optional CLi interface using RF-ID technology for automatic set-up verification. AMS 2.0 provides line control and data transfer with all machines in the line, with functionality including production line start/stop, upload/download of programs and component database information to the line, MIS data download, and line warm-up. Optionally enabling remote line monitoring and operation, AMS 2.0 helps to make the 'lights-out' factory a reality.
Data from set-up verification supports logistics by monitoring component usage and tracking inventory, issuing an alert on potential shortages to avert component starvation. Timely information to the operator indicates how many boards can still be produced or how many production hours remain with the available on-machine component inventory. The component tracking software also forms the foundation for Assembleon's lot traceability system, which tracks complete production details on a real-time basis for possible future product recalls.
Manufacturers can choose the entry level which meets their current requirements and add hardware and software modules as their needs develop. The user interface of AMS 2.0 modules is identical to the Assembleon machine user interface, minimizing training effort and optimizing factory efficiency.

Cogiscan will introduce its new RFID Smart Feeder retrofit kit compatible with SIPLACE® feeders and placement machines at Productronica. The Cogiscan RFID Smart Feeder kit can be quickly installed on any machine in the field for models S, F, HS, HF and C-series.
The customer's inventory of feeders can be converted to "smart" feeders by simply adding a low-cost RFID tag to each feeder. An RF antenna and reader is mounted on each machine feeder bank (changeover table) and/or feeder storage cart to automatically detect the unique identity and the precise location of each feeder in each feeder slot.

Digitaltest GmbH will be launching several new products at Productronica. The company has developed a new boundary-scan solution for its MTS range of testers, a 'second generation' flying probe system, a low-cost concurrent test platform and major new features for its C-LINK test development software platform.
Brand new at Productronica - Lambda Concurrent In-Circuit Tester - Lambda is Digitaltest's Concurrent In-Circuit / Functional Test System, based on the company's respected MTS technology, but at prices under 100,000 EUR, Parallel testing ensures an enormous increase in throughput. KLG Maschinen GmbH will exhibit its "Speedstar 1" drilling / routing unit with autoloader at Productronica, the latest model with remarkable improvements in throughput and precision.
This unit, equipped with interesting options, will be presented in production mode.
KLG will also display its "Speedstar 2" machine, its economoc unit in routing version.
Furthermore its X-ray machine "Visionstar" and newly developed inkjet machine "Jetstar" will be shown.

LIPPERT-UNIPOL will showcase its new LIPPROX SBU Roller at Productronica.
Whether protruding "hole plugging" resin has to be removed or dielectric layers must be ground to a perfectly flat surface, the new LIPPROX SBU roller is the ideal tool. Machine Vision Products will demonstrate its Dynamic Process Control (DPC) System at Productronica.
Dynamic Process Control is a fully scalable, cross platform plug & play system providing the vehicle to significantly improve the performance of your SMT assembly process.
DPC dramatically increases line throughput and equipment utilization while increasing first pass yields and providing substantial reductions in process errors, defects and attrition. DPC detects real time errors and defects directly from process equipment supplying detailed proactive instruction and leading indicators, providing the information required to control line throughput, utilization & quality.
DPC currently offers four integrated modules: DPC Enterprise Manager (EM), DPC Process Control Manager (PCM), DPC Setup Manager (SM), and DPC Data Managers (DM's).
One of the most powerful modules is Process Control Manager (PCM). PCM provides the user with the ability to automatically provide user alerts and requests for corrective actions based on 'Equipment Errors', 'Equipment Time-in-State', or 'Product Defects' from AOI or ICT. Implementation of this module provides the user with data to reduce material attrition, process variation and increase equipment utilization.

OK International will demonstrate the new DX-200 Series of Digital Dispenser/Controllers at Productronica 2005. These systems are affordable, accurate and repeatable micro-air dispensing systems.
The DX-200 model offers an operating pressure of 0 to 100 Psi, (0 to 6.9bar), and is configured for general dispensing applications, while the DX-215 has an operating pressure of 0 to 15 Psi, (0 to 1 bar), and is designed for specific low viscosity fluids. Applications range from the precision deposition of surface mount solder paste and adhesive to semiconductor under-fill.
The units are supplied ready to use with a power adapter, air hose, sample tips, barrel, syringe adapter and syringe stand. Operating from a 24V DC supply, the CE certified dispensers feature a timer range of 0.008 to 99.99s.

Seica - Booth A1.445 to A1.449
Seica SPA has announced the addition of several new products within its new VIVA Integrated Platform, in order to meet the challenges of today's focus on automation.
These include the Strategy.sl, a fully automated in-circuit/functional bed of nails tester, the Pilot VIP system, Seica's full-performance automated flying probe tester for loaded boards, the S24 BBT flying probe tester for bare boards, and the Firefly, a laser selective soldering system.

SURCLEAN SPR 2050
Surclean SPR2050 cleaner is a semi-aqueous solution formulated for fast, easy removal of flux residues and other soils from electronic assemblies. Cleaning is achieved by a powerful custom synthesized aprotic solvent combined with dual-action saponifiers. Cleaning levels easily exceed IPC and MIL requirements.
SURCLEAN SPR 2100
Surclean SPR 2100 is a strong semi-aqueous cleaning solution based on the successful SPR 2050 chemistry, but specified at a higher active solvent concentration level for enhanced removal rates of flux residues and other soils, including some hard to clean 'no-clean' types.
SURCLEAN SPR 2300
Surclean SPR 2300 is an exceptionally strong semi-aqueous solution based on a combination of the exclusive Surclean Aprotic Solvent Technology and a blend of water miscible solvents with dual-action saponifiers. It is available with added low foam surfactant for single and multi-tank batch type cleaning systems or with minimal surfactant for use with fully automatic dishwasher type systems. Unlike the other SPR 2000 series materials, SPR 2300 is used at full strength for maximum effectiveness.
The SPR2XXX range is available as a concentrate or pre-diluted in high purity de-ionized water, depending on the cleaning method.
Ultrasonic Systems - Booth A4.158
Ultrasonic Systems, Inc. will demonstrate the Micro-Line Digital Dispensing Head at Productronica.
This Digital Dispensing Head consists of a high-speed liquid metering valve and a precision nozzle.
The Micro-Line applies conformal coatings in precise lines or dots down to 1 mm with the liquid flow rate set electronically with the Prism software. The coating is applied at a distance from 5 to 15 mm between the nozzle tip and the substrate. This technology is much more effective than conventional needle dispensing.
Ultrasonic Systems, Inc. will also demonstrate the Optima Fluxing System. The Optima takes flux through-hole penetration to a higher level. The new Ultra-Spray head produces a more vertical spray pattern, ensuring excellent through-hole penetration when using water-based VOC-Free fluxes.
The Optima System ultrasonically atomizes VOC-Free flux into a fine mist, and then traverses the spray under the circuit at programmable speeds, ensuring excellent flux penetration of the plated-through holes.
The Optima System can process circuit boards up to 24 inches wide (61 cm) and 0.250 inches thick (6.35 mm), with plated through holes of 0.015 inches (0.381 mm) in diameter.

VJ Electronix - Booth A1.339
VJ Electronix Inc. will display the X130D X-ray inspection system in booth A1.339 at Productronica.
X130D is a manufacturing process and failure analysis (F/A) X-ray inspection system with a digital detector that provides a clearer picture. The system sets a new industry standard for ultra-high-resolution small component and circuit board inspection.
The system is part of the VJE F/A Series, which includes four other standard models: 90, 130, 130L and 160L, and is built around the choice of X-ray sources from 90 to 160 kV and two cabinet sizes to accommodate board handling from 10 x 12" to 18 x 16".
The F/A Series provides testing across the entire range of inspection tasking from process control to failure analysis. System applications include process and failure analysis of semiconductor components and assembled PCBs to heavy-duty automotive and aerospace industry parts, including standard SMT and PTH solder joints to fine-pitch components; area-array packages; and connectors, hybrid package and board modules, and more.
