SMTA annual awards announced
Oct 06, 2005
During the Annual Meeting at SMTA International, the association honored members who have shown exceptional service to the association and the industry. The Founder's Award is intended to recognize not only an individual's contributions to the SMTA, but also to the industry at large. This year's award went to Greg Evans, president of Indium Corporation of America. Greg has been a member of SMTA since 1985, serving on the Board of Directors from 1994-2000 in the roles of vice president of membership, Planning Committee member, and president. He further encourages Indium employees to become involved as chapter leaders, committee members, and participants at SMTA events locally, nationally, and internationally. The Member of Distinction Award was presented posthumously to Ron Daniels of Circuitnet and ITM Consulting. Ron provided support to the local Atlanta chapter, and at the national level he was an influential member of the SMTA International Technical Committee. Perhaps most importantly, Ron served the SMTA by his willingness to always promote the association's mission and its activities. As an editor for Circuits Assembly magazine and Circuitnet Ron provided an immeasurable amount of exposure for the SMTA. The Excellence in Leadership Award was presented to two individuals, Michael Jansen of Lucent Technologies and Gary Tanel of TechBiz Consulting, LLC. Michael Jansen has been a key player carrying out the SMTA mission at the local level, dedicating himself to the success of the Boston Chapter. Gary Tanel served on the SMTA Board of Directors from 1999 to 2002 as the vice president of membership and as a Planning Committee member, while at the same time chairing the Membership Committee and serving on the Chapter Leadership, Internet, Nominating, Awards, and Technical Committees. During that period he was relentless in developing a database and Web site for SMTA that would meet the association's communications and marketing needs.
